The Christening I

Exclusive Limited Edition Archival Pigment Prints (German Etching Paper or Stretched Canvas)

By Leo Carty 1992 © Carty Fine Arts Studios ©

The Christening is one of the most popular Leo Carty paintings. The original oil on canvas features the historic Lord God of Sabaoth Lutheran Church, in Christiansted, St. Croix. One of oldest churches on St. Croix; the Danish Lutheran Congregation held its first worship service in 1734 and constructed a permanent church building in 1750. The first service in the location depicted in this painting was held July 1834. Carty’s rendition beautifully showcases the post service church procession of family and friends as they await the exit of the proud parents and baby following the christening.
